The Lewistown Police Department is a professional and progressive full service, police agency providing services for approximately 8500 citizens within the 2.0 square mile borough. Lewistown is located in the heart of Pennsylvania and is the county seat for Mifflin County. The department currently has twelve full time sworn officer positions, (including criminal investigations, narcotics investigations, SRO, and bike patrol), two part time sworn officers, an administrative assistant, an executive officer, and a police chief.

Prerequisites for applying for the position of police officer are as follows:
- Must be 21 years of age and a citizen of the United States
- Possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver License upon being hired
- Possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent
- College education preferred but not necessary
- MPOETC Act 120 certified or enrolled in a MPOETC approved Act 120 certified program
Salary and Benefits:
The starting salary for a first-year probationary officer without experience is $22.74 per hour plus benefits. Benefits include:
- Up to $6,000.00 tuition reimbursement for Act 120 training

A written exam will be conducted on April 30, 2023, at 1000 hours at the Lewistown Community Center located at 108 Montgomery Ave, Lewistown, PA 17044, followed by the physical agility test for those who successfully complete the written exam. The physical agility test will also take place at the Lewistown Community Center and will consist of a timed 300-meter run, stair climb, dummy drag of 150 pounds, fence clear (4ft), and a trigger pull. The physical agility testing will be waived for those applicants who have worked full time and/or part-time (1000 hours per year) for a Pennsylvania police department for two years or more within the past three years, if applicant presents a recent (within 60 days) medical certificate from a United States medical doctor stating that he/she is fit for unrestricted duty as a police officer.
A civil service list will be established from the candidates successfully completing the written exam, physical agility testing, and oral exam to be completed on a later date.
Additional requirements for the position are successfully passing a medical and psychological exam, and a rigorous background investigation.
