The Lewistown Police Department is a professional and progressive full service, police agency providing services for approximately 8500 citizens within the 2.0 square mile borough. Lewistown is located in the heart of Pennsylvania and is the county seat for Mifflin County. The department currently has ten full time sworn officer positions, (including criminal investigations, and bike patrol), four part-time officer positions, an administrative assistant, two executive officers, and a police chief.

Prerequisites for applying for the position of police officer are as follows:
- Must be 21 years of age and a citizen of the United States
- Possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver License upon being hired
- Possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent
- College education preferred but not necessary
- MPOETC Act 120 certified or enrolled in a MPOETC approved Act 120 certified program
Additional requirements for the position are successfully passing a medical and psychological exam, and a rigorous background investigation.
